Davao Oriental Markets and Transport Go Digital with Paleng-QR Ph Plus

The province of Davao Oriental has officially adopted the Paleng-QR Ph Plus programme, an initiative designed to promote cashless transactions among markets, local vendors, and the transport sector.

The launch ceremony took place at the Provincial Capitol Covered Court in Mati City. It was attended by local officials and representatives from the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP).

The system utilises QR codes to provide a safer and more efficient payment method for residents.

BSP Mindanao Regional Director Judith Dolot emphasised that the adoption of digital payment systems is essential for economic adaptability.

Davao Oriental Governor Nelson L. Dayanghirang highlighted that the initiative strengthens the province’s “soft infrastructure” by making transactions inclusive for micro-entrepreneurs.

Addressing concerns regarding digital infrastructure, the Governor acknowledged that reliable internet access remains a challenge in parts of the province.

He revealed that the provincial government is currently negotiating with the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) to improve connectivity.

The focus will be on installing Wi-Fi in strategic areas such as public markets and tourist destinations to support the system.

The “Plus” version of the programme expands the scope of the original initiative.

According to Dolot, it now covers street vendors, transportation payments, and government fees, ensuring broader application beyond traditional market stalls.
