[EDITORIAL] Killing us softly with the anti-dynasty bill

May nagsasabi, “Eh di bale na, he’s a nice guy naman.”

Anti-dynasty bill, house of representatives, political dynasty

Dagdag pa ng ilan, “At least hindi killer,” in reference to his predecessor in The Hague.

Pero make no mistake, when he (and his allies) do move — they leave behind a different kind of twisted, killer legacy. Killer of hopes of a government free of conflict of interest; killer of dreams of an equitable society.

Existential ito. Kung pumasa ang ubod nang labnaw na anti-dynasty bill, we will be entrenching, even empowering and legitimizing dynasties for generations to come. Dahil ngayon, magkakaroon na ng sorry excuse for a law.

In a nutshell, ipinagbabawal ng approved bill ang pag-upo ng magkakamag-anak hanggang second degree of consanguinity or affinity.

How a ‘diluted’ anti-dynasty bill is being sold to the public.

Sabi nga ni Anti-Dynasty Network convenor Mikee Defensor, “In a sense, across all levels of government, you are still allowed to hold position simultaneously. The governor can still be the father, the mayor can be the mother, the councilor can still be the child.”

Let’s not hold our breath. – Rappler.com
